The Story Behind the Ziptique Zippa Towel

The idea for a hands-free towel was born more than two decades ago, from my love of the beach and ocean. Swimming, body-surfing, and running on the beach were my favorite summer pastimes.

I noticed something that happened time and time again. Whenever someone emerged from the water, the first thing they wanted was a towel to throw around their shoulders. They would wrap themselves up to keep warm, but there was a problem: they had to hold the towel together with one hand.

Want to grab a drink? One hand.

Want to eat something? One hand.

Want to use your phone, chat with a friend, or simply relax? You guessed it — one hand!

And the moment you let go, the towel would slip off your shoulders and end up on the sand.

I made a mental note of it all those years ago, thinking, surely there must be a better way.

But the idea stayed just that — an idea.

Until now.

After more than two decades, that little mental note has finally become a reality.

I started making samples to test the market. Most of the time, people would nod as they tried to process the simplicity of the customization. The question was often asked, “This is so simple, why did no one think of it before?” But therein lies the answer: Sometimes the simple things are right in front of one.
